Snow Days at the Hospital

Thank you for your patience.

Mom and Dad Hughes have been taking a break from the blog to focus more on Claire's health with the doctors. Claire's dialysis hasn't been going well for the last few weeks and so, before the snow and ice hit, she was admitted to the hospital.

When talking with the doctors it came to everyone's attention that Claire simply has no room in her peritoneal space (her organs take up 95% of the space and the remainder free space is taken by adhesion/scar tissue leaving little-to-no room for fluid or fluid gets trapped by the organs/tissue).

Claire underwent surgery to place a g-button to assist with growth and the doctor also checked the catheter. The surgery went smoothly, but the catheter refused to work so Claire's labs went haywire. The doctors were concerned that the options were running out. Claire is now on a high dextrose concentration for dialysis which is only a temporary solution. Things are going well, but prayers are needed so that Claire does not come to resist the higher concentration; that she grows quickly to add space for her hopeful transplanted kidney.

On another note, the blog underwent a little housecleaning so that the pages are not as cluttered. In addition, to give Mommy and Daddy more time to play with Claire, they are going to start posting only on the first and third Sundays of the month - except when there are special announcements to be made.

Again, thank you for being patient with the family.
